Over the past year CMS has been seeking a new and qualified vendor through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to take on the role of the Workers’ Compensation Review Contractor (WCRC). On June 16, 2011, CMS awarded Provider Resources, Inc. with the WCRC contract effective July 1, 2011. However, the transition will be delayed due to a protest filed by one of the contract bidders, Data and Analytics Solutions, Inc. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has until October 13, 2011 to render a decision in reference to the protest.
An article posted on WorkCompCentral (subscription required) noted that Data and Analytics Solutions, Inc. is alleging the agency’s review process was flawed. The article also states that the current review contractor, Lifecare Management Partners, will continue to handle the Workers’ Compensation Medicare Set-Aside (WCMSA) review process until the protest is resolved.
PMSI remains hopeful that the transition to a new contractor will move forward expeditiously in anticipation of a more consistent and timely review process. Until then, we await the GAO decision on the protest. Updates on the situation will be posted on MedicareInsights.com as they are received.
